Warm & Creamy Crabmeat Dip

This is a family favorite. We’ve actually been enjoying this one for too many years to count. It never gets old. And depending on what dietary restrictions you may need to address, this Warm & Creamy Crabmeat Dip works for most.

It’s gluten-free, low-carb & delicious. Always welcomed when served with crackers, bread or even raw veggies.

The ingredients for your Warm & Creamy Crabmeat Dip…

  • Cream cheese – At room temperature. If you’re looking for a possible substitute, Mascarpone – a rich and creamy Italian cheese – can be used. Another option would be Neufchatel – a low-fat version of regular cream cheese.
  • Milk – Whole milk or reduced-fat milk would be okay.
  • Flaked crabmeat – Premium canned crabmeat works well here. Drain off any excess liquid. As you’re adding the crabmeat to the mixture, gently break it up into small nuggets and check for any stray filaments that should be removed.
  • Dried onion flakes – Dried onion flakes are dehydrated pieces of minced fresh onion. Manufacturers chop and dry the onions into flat shreds or coarse flakes. A real time-saver, they offer a long shelf life and a concentrated, savory flavor without the tears or prep work of fresh onion. If you prefer to use fresh minced onion, double the amount of the dried version is required.
  • Prepared horseradish – Prepared horseradish is a spicy condiment made from grated horseradish root, vinegar, and salt. Do not substitute with creamy horseradish sauce, which is a milder, creamier version often made with prepared horseradish along with ingredients like sour cream or mayonnaise.
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper – To taste.

As the oven preheats, all ingredients are mixed in a bowl. Pretty easy prep, right?

When I’m in a hurry, I choose to use dried onion flakes. They work well here. Feel free to use chopped fresh onion instead …just be sure to mince it.

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium-size bowl.
  • Mix until well incorporated.
  • Transfer to a small baking dish.

  • This will need to hang out in the oven for about 25 to 30 minutes to fully heat through.
  • The timing depends on the size baking dish you use.
  • Just keep an eye on it.
  • It’s ready when you note a light golden crust on the edges.

Enjoy your Warm & Creamy Crabmeat Dip still warm from the oven.

  • Of course, this is soooooo good when you schmear a generous amount on some grilled sliced baguette.
  • But feel free to try it on wheat or gluten-free crackers.
  • Don’t leave out the low-carb folks – add some sliced cucumber to your serving tray.

It’s official. You have a crowd pleaser.
